Nice, a Great Cycling Destination
Capital of the French Riviera, the 5th largest city in France with 350,000 inhabitants, the country’s 2nd leading tourist hub with over 5 million visitors per year, and home to France’s 2nd largest airport with more than 14 million annual passengers, Nice enjoys a unique setting and an exceptional climate. It brings together all the qualities that now make it an outstanding sporting destination and a particularly popular host for major international cycling events.
First and foremost is Paris-Nice, which every March since 1933 has made Nice one of France’s cycling capitals. In recent years, this dimension has grown even further with the historic arrival of the Tour de France in 2024, showcasing to the world the city and region’s extraordinary potential for cycling. After hosting the Grand Départ in 2020 and ahead of the upcoming finish of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift this August, it is clear confirmation that Nice and its metropolitan area provide an exceptional setting for the world’s greatest cycling races.
This final stage of Paris-Nice will be no exception, featuring the ascent of the Col de la Porte and the Côte de Châteauneuf-Villevieille before finishing at the Allianz Riviera stadium after 124.5 km of racing. A new route for a final stage that promises to be just as thrilling and selective as ever.
Offering the very best in cycling is the ambition of our region for elite-level competition. It is also the ambition of the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur in terms of innovative mobility. Priority has been given to expanding the cycling network, which now totals 231 km of bike lanes across the metropolitan area, along with the renewal of the Vélo scheme in 2024, offering 2,000 self-service bicycles, 90% of which are electric.
Road safety for cyclists has been strengthened with the installation of 250 prevention signs, and special attention has been paid to highlighting the iconic mountain passes that have shaped the greatest chapters of cycling history. With more than 50 road and gravel cycling routes and 60 mountain bike and e-MTB loops across 24 municipalities and over 1,000 km of trails, the region attracts countless enthusiasts.
All these strengths have earned Nice the “Ville à Vélo du Tour de France” label twice, in 2021 and 2024.
