Georg Steinhauser: “I grew confidence over the days”

March 15 th 2026 - 17:44

“It’s an amazing feeling. To be honest, I always had on the back of my mind that Vauquelin was gonna overtake me. He’s super strong, but I grew confidence over the days. I was still nervous ahead of today’s stage, with a gap of just 19 seconds. I just gave it my all, I had a good day, and I made it.

Today was particularly intense. The first big climb was quite controlled. And then at the bottom of the second climb, Ineos went quite hard, but I was still there and then I figured it would come down to the the final climb. I suffered, but I saw Vauquelin was struggling a little bit too. It was a relief for me.

Paris-Nice is always a special race. I’m super happy with what I’ve done, now we’ll see what this changes for the future.”
