“We thought it was gonna be a bit of a bigger fight for the break and we’d get a bit more time. The gap was so tight, we needed to stick together. And then I knew the UAE guy [Igor Arrieta] was gonna go full at the bottom [of the final climb]. Maybe I could have countered after this, but it’s hard to say.

For sure I’m a bit disappointed. We knew they were coming, but I didn’t know they were that fast. Maybe I had a bit left… But they came so fast, with 5 km to go, we couldn’t have made it.

Now we just go all in for Kevin [Vauquelin]. He’s in a good place, he feels super good, so whatever he needs we do.”
