Harold Tejada: "A very emotional moment"

“It’s a very emotional moment for me, my first World Tour win the team, and it comes from lots of perseverance. It’s huge for me to win in Paris-Nice, a race of high calibre with riders such as Jonas [Vingegaard], Dani [Martinez]… I’m delighted to raise my arms, I want to thank XDS Astana.

I had a mechanical on the penultimate climb. I had to change bikes. My teammates did an amazing job and I was at the front for the final climb. I knew it was up and down all the way to the line so I gave it everything I had when I made my move. In the finale, I asked on the radio if it was done and they told me: ‘Yes, you can enjoy it and celebrate!’

I had some bad luck this week. We were aiming for the podium but I lost a lot of time on the crosswind day. That’s cycling. And on the other hand, we have two stages under our belt, with Max’s and mine. And there are two more opportunities. Let’s enjoy with the team. Champagne!”
