Jonas Vingegaard: "It’s nice to take revenge on such a beautiful day"

“Personally, I really wanted to win, and so did the team. They did an amazing job, making sure it was a good group in the front and keeping the gap tight. Everyone sacrificed themselves for me and I’m happy I could repay their efforts. My teammates deserve champagne tonight.
We had to adapt the plan a few times. The initial plan was to attack where I did. But the gap went bigger than we anticipated, so we thought I might have to attack and bridge already on the first climb. But then we went back to the original plan. Victor [Campenaerts] did an amazing lead-out and I already had a gap without needing to go all out. Then you can stay within your limits.
I realised at one moment: ‘This looks like the road where I crashed last year…’ I didn’t know we were coming back but it’s nice to take revenge on such a beautiful day. It’s a very nice area and it’s been an amazing day for the team and myself.”
