"It’s a dream to win in a race with such a high prestige. Paris-Nice is one of the biggest races in the world. I’ve been fighting for this for a long time. It’s my first World Tour victory, it’s kind of unbelievable. The last couple of weeks haven’t been the best. I didn’t have the biggest confidence. But I gave it all in the last 200 metres. I have to thank the whole team for believing in me and putting me in the best position.
It was very difficult to manage the finale. It was all about finding the right timing. Mike Teunissen and I tried to stay together as much as possible. With 2 kilometres to go, we were not in the best position but he did an unbelievable pull towards the last roundabout and then he did an incredible lead-out. He gives me a lot of confidence.
This morning, in the bus, I wasn’t even sure I could finish this stage, because I felt really not good on the bike the last few days. And now I’ve won!"
