Nestled in the heart of authentic Provence, Barbentane is a charming village of 4,200 inhabitants that captivates visitors with its preserved character and exceptional natural setting.
Barbentane’s unique geography makes it a remarkable place. To the south lies the Montagnette Massif, a vast natural area of more than 6,000 hectares, and to the north the wide alluvial plains of the Rhône–Durance confluence. This diversity of landscapes offers a range of striking panoramas.
Over the centuries, Barbentane has preserved its authentic soul. The village bears witness to a rich history, from Celto-Ligurian remains to the splendors of the Renaissance, with the marks of the Middle Ages in between.
Visitors particularly appreciate the richness of the preserved heritage and the gentle Provençal way of life dear to Frédéric Mistral, which makes Barbentane a true Ciéuta Mistralenco (an official label awarded last year). Proud of its Provençal identity, it is also a sporting town: each year Barbentane welcomes tens of thousands of participants who come to run, walk, or cycle around this superb site.
Local products such as tirette (fougasse dough breadsticks) and the famous Barbentane fig are among the specialties to be enjoyed without moderation.
Barbentane combines historic heritage, natural beauty, and an idyllic lifestyle — a charming destination in the south of France.
