Santiago Buitrago: “I really did not expect this”

“I really did not expect this even if I knew I was in good condition. When I saw that Roglic was trying to make the race harder, I did not know how it would work out so I attacked from afar. To win a World Tour race here in France is exceptional for me. You need to try and that’s what I did. I had good legs and a good breakaway companion with Platt who helped me into the finale. I’m also well placed in the GC so it’s great. The aim was to help Pello Bilbao or myself make it on the podium so it’s great for the team. It’s an amazing day for Bahrain. We did a very good job.”
