Laporte: “It’s a really nice gift”

Christophe Laporte (Cofidis) : “It was crazy. We didn’t plan for that. We had established that I would attack if Primoz [Roglic] and Wout [Van Aert] were in a good position. Nathan [Van Hooydonck] set a very high tempo, it was really stretched. The team was very strong. After Nathan, it was up to me. Primoz was on my wheel but I didn’t know Primoz was following us. When I gave way, I saw we were four, with [Zdenek] Stybar. He couldn’t keep up, I followed Primoz and Wout. I was on the limit. It’s unbelievable. If they had told me this morning, I wouldn’t have believed it. Wout told me with 1km to go today was for me. It’s a really nice gift from them. I’m the yellow jersey of Paris-Nice. I spent three weeks away from my family in February. The team pays attention to every detail and I’m happy the work pays off. Tomorrow’s main goal is to keep Primoz in a good position for the overall. We’ll take priorities in order.”
