Nestled in a bend of the Seine, Carrières-sous-Poissy is now home to 20,950 residents, a constantly growing population, nearly 45% of whom are under the age of 30.
A modern and dynamic town, it is proud of a past that is still visible in its landscapes: striking limestone quarries, green riverside paths along the Seine and the Dérivation Canal—once a major inland shipping route and today a vast market-gardening plain, with agricultural activity enjoying a strong revival… Just a stone’s throw from the capital, it feels like the countryside!
The upcoming arrival of the RER E line (EOLE), followed by Tram Line 13 at Poissy station, will enhance an already extensive bus network and strengthen the town’s privileged access to the entire Paris region. A footbridge dedicated to soft mobility will soon link the town to the station.
Awarded the label “Towns and Villages Where Life Is Good”, Carrières-sous-Poissy has made nature a key driver of its development, with the Parc Départemental du Peuple de l’Herbe—the largest recreational and landscaped park in the Yvelines—and the new Nelson Mandela Park.
Also awarded the label “Active & Sporty City”, the town uses sport as a lever for personal development, social cohesion, and inclusion through many initiatives: swimming lessons and early sports introduction for young children, “Sport for All” sessions, the creation of a Sustainable Mobility Allowance for municipal employees, and the organization of the Sports Festival.
