Located between Paris and Normandy, the department of Yvelines covers the whole of western Ile-de-France. Its rich heritage includes castles, churches and forests. Countryside covers 80% of Yvelines and several waterways run through it, such as the Seine, making this a plain divided up by deep valleys. It is well-known for its beautiful landscape and the quality of the environment.
Its strategic, geographical location also makes the area a key player in Greater Paris. Apart from its position as Ile-de-France’s leading industrial department, Yvelines boasts a large number of researchers in sectors with high future potential: the automobile industry, aeronautics, aerospace, defence, etc. To prepare for the jobs of tomorrow, the Conseil Départemental (Regional Council) encourages the diversification of industries, such as sustainable building or the automobile industry which is evolving towards the mobility solutions of the future.
Moreover, bicycles play a key part in this eco-mobility, with 860km of cycling paths and the development of intermodal passenger transport. Yvelines is linked to the 2 main European cycling paths: the Paris - London Green Way and the Véloscénie between Paris and Mont-Saint-Michel, offering riding enthusiasts of all levels a complete range cycling routes.
With more than 400,000 holders of sports licences, the sporting world contributes greatly towards making Yvelines a dynamic department. By financing facilities such as Saint-Quentin-en-Yveslines’ new national velodrome, promoting green tourism and supporting major events such as the Ryder Cup in 2018, the Conseil Départemental is encouraging people to get involved in sport and outdoor leisure activities. This year the partnership undertaken by the Conseil Départemental and A.S.O.for the eighth year in a row will give rise to the start of the first and second stages of Paris-Nice in Bois-d’Arcy and Rochefort-en-Yvelines and the organisation of Tous Cyclistes en Yvelines, a family celebration punctuated by bicycle touring rides.
