A prologue to set the tone

Sporting stakes02.03.2013Prologue- Houilles / Houilles

The 2.9-kms prologue in Houilles should set the tone of an unpredictable edition of Paris-Nice.

Short, nervous, bumpy and sinewy, the preamble to this years' Race to the Sun could favour several types of riders, from time trial specialists to sprinters. In this respect last year's runner up Lieuwe Westra cannot be ruled out and since his Vacansoleil team always do well at this time of the year, his Belgian team-mate Thomas de Gendt is also a man to watch out for. While it will be a little early for the lading favourites to express themselves, time trial specialists like Australia's Richie Porte or even Andras Kloeden should feature prominently. Yet an experience of the track could be a plus and in this respect, riders like Australia's Leigh Howard or Dane Mihael Morkov can be ranked among the leading outside bets. Let us not forget past prologue winners at the start again this year like Sweden's Gustav Larsson, David Millar or Jens Voigt.
